Always expect players to try and create characters that are more powerful than they "should" be. A good GM will read through their character sheets before hand and talk with players to get the most out of characters without still breaking them. Margaret, while talented, is not an experienced GM. And she's dealing with Dave. Some men just want to watch the world burn. Dave would be satisfied with that, but only if his finger was on the flamethrower's trigger.
